The Scholar Support Program of Centro Salud Integral “Sangre de Cristo” offers a support with school tasks to low income children, most of them from Public Schools; they attend to this Institution after their morning school classes to lunch because their parents have to work all day. Specially, it has been noticed that these children do not have an English program at their Public Schools as either in the Institution. For this reason, it has been proposed the implementation of an English program as foreign language to deal with the need of communication and interacting with their foreign benefactors, who send them, letters in English or sometimes visit the Institution. The main objective of this project is to teach students the elementary knowledge of English language using didactic resources and techniques developing communicative competence and vocabulary.
This work is focused on children whom already have the reading and writing skills acquired in their mother tongue (Spanish) that is, children from third, fourth and fifth grade of primary school level. The didactic development of units is determined by the mean of participant’s age. Likewise, the descriptive method has been used to show the characteristics of teaching-learning process of English as a foreign language using didactic resources and techniques to motivate students to learn this language and use it to have a better friendship with foreign people.
The final results show that 84% of the children have acquired a satisfactory level of assimilation and acquisition of the elementary English language vocabulary because now children use it to communicate with their foreign benefactors. The development of the present work has carried out an important contribution to children’s cognitive and social growth. Thus, giving the children a necessary tool to face up the new times educational knowledge requirements.
