Summary. The authors investigated the hemodynamic repercussions of the orthostatism at high-altitude, in a group of normal subjects, native of the Bolivian Altiplano (High Plateau) (3.700 m.) during rest: in dorsal decupitus position and sitting position, during a muscular exercise on an ergometric bycicle: in a dorsal decupitus position and sitting position.
The results obtained suggest that the circulatory perturbations due to orthostatism are diminished at high-altitude: It could be possible that the cause was a minor displacement of the blood to the veins of the infeiror limbs, and it seems that the venous tone plays an important role durgin the physiological adaptation period to the orthostatism.
