Abstract. Echocardiography has greatly enhanced our ability of early diagnosis and appropriate treatment of this group of patients. Echocardiographic of four patients with acute aortic regurgitation who subsecuently died, are reported in this paper. These findings were: a) Echocardiographic signs of aortic valve vegetations: - A mass of “shaggy” echoes involving one or more aortic valve cusps, either during ventricular systole or diastole. - Aortic valve leaflets with no restriction of motion. - Abnormal mass of echoes seen in the left ventricular out flow tract above the mitral valve. b) Echocardiographic signs of severe aortic regurgitation: - Early closure of the mitral valve. - Echocardiographic signs of left ventricular volume overload. “M” mode echocardiography is belpful in the diagnosis of aortic valve damage and suggesting appropriate treatment.es_ES
